HATEBREED Frontman Talks OZZFEST, Upcoming DVD
September 6, 2007Pete Richards of ChartAttack.com recently conducted an interview with HATEBREED frontman Jamey Jasta. A couple of excerpts from the chat follow:
On playing this year's Ozzfest:
"These shows have been the best shows of our career. Some days they chant HATEBREED 20 minutes before we go on, and then even during the set. It's great. Our signings are packed every day. It's just been insane. We didn't expect this nice of a welcome back."
"Five years [straight of playing Ozzfest]. We needed to come back and do the second stage and close the second stage because playing the main stage alienated some of our diehard fans who don't have the $50 to come see us or don't want to see us from 2,000 feet away on the lawn. It was great. We won over a lot of people who had maybe seen our logo before but didn't know what we were about, but we can't do it next year. We need to do something different."
On HATEBREED's upcoming DVD:
"After years of compiling footage and trying to give all the past members their dues and trying to give each era of the band its due, we want to make sure it's a proper documentary that shows just how it turned into this movement all over the world. We want to show the development in Japan, the explosion in Europe, where these past two records have been the biggest records of our career. Show the first five years and how we used to play to 10 people in a back yard, or a hall and at bars, and then show going to the Grammys and walking the red carpet."
On Jasta's new Hatewear clothing line:
"It just takes initiative and time, and it's not easy. People want to support the music. People want to support the bands. The more items we make, the more they sell. We just made basketball shorts. They sold like crazy. We just made sweatpants. They sold like crazy. With Hatewear, if you don't want to wear a band's logo, you can wear something else. People download the music so much, the clothes are what sells. You can't download a T-shirt or pair of shorts."
